Nord-Lock
Steadfast supplies Nord-Lock wedge-locking washers and bolt-securing solutions for vibration-resistant and safety-critical bolted joints across energy, industrial and offshore applications.
Nord-Lock washers use a cam-pair wedge-locking principle that helps maintain clamp load where vibration, dynamic loading or cyclical movement would otherwise loosen conventional fasteners. Correct grade, size and installation are essential for performance.
Wedge-locking washers
What they are
Nord-Lock wedge-locking washers are supplied as matched pairs. Cams on the inner faces lock against each other; serrations on the outer faces engage the nut and joint surface. Any attempt by the fastener to rotate loose raises the cams and increases clamp force rather than allowing the joint to unwind.
Materials, sizes & options
- Steel washers: typically for general industrial duty (zinc flake coating system using Delta Protekt®)
- Stainless steel washers: for corrosive or hygienic environments
- Metric and imperial sizes: matched to common bolt diameters
Material, coating and size must suit the bolt grade, joint materials and service environment. Ask Steadfast to confirm the correct Nord-Lock designation for your assembly.
Key benefits
- Vibration resistance
Designed to secure joints under vibration and dynamic load - Maintained clamp load
Wedge action resists spontaneous loosening - Reusable where undamaged
Pairs can often be reused if cams and serrations remain sound - Easy to specify
Standard sizes for common metric and imperial bolts
Bolt-securing solutions
What they are
Beyond the washer pairs themselves, Steadfast supports project and maintenance supply of Nord-Lock bolt-securing products for assemblies where spontaneous loosening is unacceptable, from rotating equipment and structural steel to process plant and offshore hardware.
Typical uses
- Vibrating plant, pumps, compressors and rotating equipment
- Structural steel and secondary steel connections
- Offshore, energy and process-plant bolted joints
- Safety-critical assemblies where clamp load must be maintained
Key benefits
- Safety critical
Suited to joints where loosening has serious consequences - Reduced retightening
Helps cut inspection and maintenance cycles - Proven principle
Wedge-locking used worldwide in demanding industries - Specification support
Help matching size, material and duty

Nord-Lock Group
Nord-Lock pioneered the wedge-locking washer and is an established international supplier of bolt-securing technology for vibration-critical and safety-critical assemblies.
Conventional spring washers, nylon inserts and chemical threadlockers can be unreliable under severe vibration. Nord-Lock washers secure the joint mechanically through the cam pair, so loosening requires the fastener to climb the wedge, increasing clamp load rather than releasing it.
Steadfast focuses on supply of Nord-Lock wedge-locking washers. Wider Nord-Lock Group products can be discussed where relevant to a project enquiry. See the FAQ for suitability questions, or ask for product guidance.
FAQs
What Nord-Lock products does Steadfast supply?
Steadfast focuses on Nord-Lock wedge-locking washers and related bolt-securing supply. Other Nord-Lock Group products can be discussed against a specific enquiry where suitable items exist in the manufacturer’s range.
How do Nord-Lock wedge-locking washers work?
Each pair has cams on the facing surfaces and serrations on the outer faces. Once tightened, the serrations grip the nut and joint. If the fastener tries to rotate loose, the cams must ride up on each other, which would increase clamp load, so the joint resists spontaneous loosening under vibration.
Are they suitable for vibrating plant and rotating equipment?
Yes. Vibration and dynamic loading are primary use cases for Nord-Lock washers. Confirm bolt size, material grade, joint hardness and environment so the correct washer type is selected.
Can Nord-Lock washers be used on soft surfaces or oversized holes?
Soft joint materials and oversized clearance holes may need a hardened washer or different Nord-Lock configuration so the serrations seat correctly. Share joint details and we can advise on suitability.
Can Nord-Lock washers be reused?
Often yes, if cams and serrations are undamaged and the pair remains matched. Discard washers that are corroded, deformed or show worn cams. Follow Nord-Lock installation guidance for your product type.
How do they compare with spring washers or nylon nuts?
Spring washers and nylon inserts rely on friction or elasticity and can lose effectiveness under severe vibration or temperature change. Nord-Lock washers lock mechanically via the cam wedge. Selection still depends on the joint. They are not a universal replacement for every securing method.
What information is needed to select Nord-Lock washers?
Useful details include bolt diameter and thread (metric or imperial), bolt grade, joint materials and hardness, hole size, environment (including stainless or corrosive duty), quantity, and any project or approval requirements. Drawings or photographs of the joint also help.
